The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is an affordable robotics competition for high-school students. The ultimate goal of FTC is to reach more young people with an accessible opportunity to discover the excitement and rewards of science, technology, engineering. and mathematics (STEM).

The University of Mississippi Center for Mathematics and Science Education (CMSE) is the Affiliate Coordinator for FTC in Mississippi. CMSE implements the program by encouraging team formation, providing adult training workshops and organizing scrimmages and a state championship tournament.

FTC Teams are generally made up of young people from 14 – 18 years old, but may include middle school-aged youth who are prepared to enter a high-school program.

Teams can be organized at schools, at churches, at clubs or troops, or in neighborhoods. The main requirement is that an adult take the responsibility for registering a team and scheduling their meetings. New coaches are encouraged to attend free workshops and to review information on the Mississippi and national FTC websites.
